Usually one gets elected to Congress before he or she goes to jail. Slick Willie might skip all the formality of an election and go straight to jail. Former Memphis mayor Willie Herenton is now the target of a federal probe. An indictment would only serve to increase his popularity among his supporters.

Memphians don’t despair. You might finally have a leader who isn’t crazy…yet. Today marks a new era in Memphis as A.C. Wharton takes over as the new city mayor. Good luck.

In yet another in a series of embarrassing events, Memphis Mayor Lowery recently greeted the Dalai Lama with a ‘fist bump‘. Now I’m not slamming the fist bump. Actually, I like have used it on occasion myself. However, shouldn’t have Mayor Lowery used a more formal greeting until he and the Dal-man had time to hang and throw down some beers?

Slick Willie is up to his old tricks saying that incumbent congressman Steve Cohen can’t represent the interests of blacks in Memphis. As if Willie EVER represented anyone’s interests other than his own. As usual Memphis will get what it deserves.

Washington Monthly recently ranked Tiger High 197 out of 258 national universities. Who were some of the universities who beat Tiger High you ask? Would you believe  Spalding University? How about Wright State? These are place that even UM basketball players can get in to.

The people trying to stop gang violence in Memphis deserve much respect.

Tiger High’s football team was recently ranked 96th by College Football News in its annual preseason rankings. This will put a lot of pressure on the Tigers to live up to the hype. Good thing is they are guaranteed to win more games than did the 2007-2008 Memphis Tiger basketball team which was 0-40 for the year. Luckily, beer will be sold at the stadium this year which provide fans with the illusion that they are actually watching Division I football.

For the all the Tiger High apologists, keep in mind that this is the SECOND time your appearance in the Final Four was erased.  Like Cal, Tiger High has been caught cheating twice. What do you expect in a city where ‘cheating’ and corruption is a way of life.
